What makes CRBN different from our other headphones?
CRBN is our first Electrostatic headphone, and in signature Audeze style, we've combined our years of experience with high end audio to bring this tech to a new level. CRBN uses our brand new patent-pending Carbon Nanotube infused diaphragm film that's ultra-light weight and low resonance. It has an amazingly rich bass experience compared to competing Electrostatic headphones.
What is an Electrostatic headphone?
Rather than moving the diaphragm film or speaker cone as in planar magnetic or traditional dynamic drivers, electrostatic headphones move their diaphragm using the Electrostatic force. This is the same force that creates static cling on your clothes when they come out of the wash, just used in a much more controlled way. Electrostatic headphones offer many of the same benefits of planar magnetic headphones without the added weight of the heavy magnets. Electrostatics are famous for their musicality and engaging mid and upper frequencies.
What does the CRBN sound like?
The Carbon is richly detailed, extremely neutral, and highly transparent. It's like nothing is between you and your music and is incredibly immersive. Our Nano-Tube web creates a very uniform driving force for super low distortion. Controlled resonance yields 15dB more bass below 40Hz compared to electrostatic competitors for a powerful low end experience. CRBN also brings out the engaging detail in the mid and upper ranges that Electrostatic headphones are famous for.
Do I need special equipment to use the CRBN?
Yes. A specially designed electrostatic amplifier is required for use with the CRBN. You can find a full list of our suggestions (as well as a few converters to use with standard amplifiers) in our support article here.
