Greetings Travelers! With your cerebellum properly mapped with custom HRTF personalization, we can move onto full body integration with our newest Mobius feature: Head Gesture controls!
To do this, you'll need to make sure you've installed the latest version of the Audeze HQ software and have updated to the latest firmware version. Instructions and download links can be found here.
Be amazed as this avatar is controlled using only one's head. This power is now within your grasp!
From the Audeze HQ HRTF Personalization screen, notice the boxes below the virtual cranium. If you click the HEAD GESTURES button below the shiny blue chin, you’ll be able to cue your keyboard without use of your primitive human appendages (ie: you can control your computer with your head movement).
There are nine boxes (under the three ACTIVATION KEY points) where you can input up to two alphanumeric characters that will trigger with appropriate movements of your head. You can enter a single key or a combination, including Shift, Alt, Ctrl, or F1-F12. To enter a number, please use the number keys above your QWERTY, as number pad keys will not work in this version of reality.
You'll see another nine boxes with +/- numbers already in them-- these are the degrees of movement required to activate the keys you have set up to the right. You're free to change these: the larger the number, the more you’ll have to move your head in order to trigger the keys.
- PITCH = LOOK DOWN / LOOK UP: This control will activate if you tilt your head forward or back in a nodding fashion (think YES)
- YAW = TURN LEFT / TURN RIGHT: This control activates with a corresponding shaking motion of your head left or right (think NO)
- ROLL = TILT LEFT / TILT RIGHT: The final control actives with a corresponding tilting of your head toward either of your shoulders (think bobblehead)
The default action for the key functions is to BIND the key in a continuous-press action, keeping the activated button depressed until you once again make the appropriate motion of your head.
For those less inclined to shake your head like a Tarsian tentacle beast, you can make any control a PRESS AND RELEASE control, which will act just like a standard single-press of the assigned key.
To activate PRESS AND RELEASE: select the desired field, then press and keep the key(s) held down until the field is surrounded by a golden yellow frame.
Below each individual movement control, you’ll see a third box for TWITCH MODE. Click the check-box and the third field will become editable. These controls are activated with a movement in both directions for the appropriate field. For example, If TWITCH MODE were activated for ROLL, you would activate that control by tilting both left AND right once to the appropriate degree.
You can also save your wild head movements to a corresponding Profile. This way you can customize your head gestures to any key combination in the known universe (with the exception of the number pad keys, they're frightfully advanced!)...
First, click the ADD button. At the top of the popup window, type in the name you'd like for your profile and click CREATE.
Then you can customize the new blank profile as you see fit.
It may seem a bit confusing at first, but with a little practice you can make a new profile for each game or use case, for a new way to explore the galaxy!
Note: The in-app "Mode Switching" function for the latest HQ will only function with the newest firmware update with MCU 1.71 or above. If using the new HQ app with older FW, the MODE button will disappear when Mobius is plugged in via USB.
