How to use the Mic and operate the Microphone controls

Greetings Traveler! Behold the mighty Mobius Microphone! Your first task is to locate and properly install this powerful communication tool. To do so, rotate the mic so the flat side of the plug aligns with the flat side of Mobius' mic input port, then insert firmly. For the best mic position, we recommend starting just below the left corner of your mouth, and getting the mic as close to your mouth as possible. Spin the mic volume control up (see below) until you hear your own voice in the sidetone, then experiment by moving the mic around until you hear your voice loud and clear with minimal breath noise or plosives. Remember that the mic is highly positional, so twist and shout until you get the best results.

Once this connection and positioning are successful, you'll be ready to bark orders at your inferiors, question enemy operatives, or tell your mom how much you love her. Of course, in order to accomplish this, you'll also need to master the two controls on Mobius' left earcup. Fortunately for all, this is quite simple.

First and foremost, it's imperative that the Microphone Mute Switch be pushed to the "up" position, to enable the flow of electrons from the mic's sound-capturing capsule toward the infinite beyond. Pushing this switch to the "down" position will render the mic mute and cause the parties on the other end of your chat to hear nothing but silence. Of course this can be very handy for times when you don't want your voice to be heard, but we won't offer any conjecture as to what you might say that you prefer remain unheard. When you move this switch, the Gypsy Muse contained within will whisper into your ears, and you'll hear one of two phrases: "Mute On" or "Mute Off." Additionally, when the mic is muted, you'll cease to hear your own voice through the earcups. In case that's not enough, our crack team of wordsmiths developed this simple mnemonic device to help you remember how the switch alters the operation of the microphone: "Up is On." Isn't that just delightful?

Secondly, and with a bit more complexity, we have the rotary control known as the Microphone Volume Control. In case you're wondering, it's the rotary control on Mobius' backside with the image of a microphone next to it, and is also the one that is closest to the microphone itself. This control has three functions:

1. When spun upward, it increases the gain and makes the mic's output LOUDER. Our wordsmiths have developed the phrase "Up is Up" for ease of memorizing this function. Use this to ensure your voice is heard above the din of the battlefield or the roar of the engines, on platforms that support hardware volume control. Conversely, spinning this control downward will render the mic's output more quiet, which will assist in making sure you don't appear to be YELLING when you're not. Our wordsmiths are still debating on the best mnemonic device to help memorize this feature, but we're sure they'll think of something. Note that this control also affects the volume of the sound that's returned to your ears from the mic, which you'll very quickly discover as you adjust it.
2. If you were to click and spin this control up or down, you would experience the transformative effects of a change in equalization profile (also known as EQ). Mobius currently has no fewer than EIGHT EQ profiles that have been pre-installed for your convenience, and they are outlined below. In case you accidentally change the EQ profile when you didn't mean to: there's no need for panic, as you can easily click and spin the opposite direction to switch back to the previous preset.
3. A three-second press will toggle through the three audio resolution modes available via USB connection. Those three modes are as follows:
1. 7.1 Channel, which is the default mode and also the mode for surround-sound content. In this mode, Mobius will appear to your host USB device as an 8-channel sound card. 2-channel sources will play as normal, with front-right and front-left speakers being emulated when 3D is turned on. This mode maxes out at 24bit/48kHz sampling rates.
2. Stereo (or 2 Channel), which is sometimes useful for devices and/or software that’s confused by the 8-channel approach above. This mode maxes out at 16bit/48kHz sampling rates, and the two channels are emulated as left and right speakers in a room when 3D is engaged.
3. Hi-Res, which allows Mobius to process sampling frequencies of 24bit/96kHz. This mode disables all surround-sound, 3D audio and head-tracking, and turns Mobius into a High Resolution Audio Machine for two channel playback of Hi-Res files.

As promised, below is a list of the current EQ presets available in Mobius, which can be chosen as directed in item 2 just above:

1. Default: This is our favorite preset, and is the one we labored over longest. It's tuned for best all-around sound and our guiding light was our very own LCD series' sound signature.
2. Footsteps: We like this one when we want to know who may be sneaking up behind us. It's designed to allow better perception of approaching walkers, whether animal, vegetable or mineral.
3. Ballistics: Boom! We hear this is the Hulk's personal choice, so he can hear things go Bang! Though we realize ballistics refers to the science of projectiles and firearms, or the study of the effects of being fired on a bullet, cartridge, or gun, we also believe this preset will enable you to best experience the firing sounds of said projectiles.
4. Music: First prize goes to the cadet that can guess what this preset was developed to enhance. Anyone? Anyone? ... Bueller? ... Bueller? ... Frye? ....
5. Racing: Start your engines! Whether your thing is Formula One, GTA, Mario Kart, airships, starships or pod racers, this will help you satisfy the need for speed!
6. RPG: While we're not exactly sure what a Role Playing Game is supposed to sound like, we do hope this preset will help you achieve your quest. What is your quest? What is your favorite color? What is the airspeed velocity of an unladen swallow?
7. Flat: This brings the tonal balance closer to the natural response of the headphones. We recommend this preset when 3D is off for gaming, movies or music. The Default preset will sound slightly warmer than the Flat preset. Consider yourself warned, and enlightened!
8. Warm: This profile activates a slight boost to the bass frequencies and a corresponding cut to the treble frequencies, for a more classic or vintage tone circa 1960s-70s in Earth years.
